Byrd Park Invasitors
Volunteers who perform various forms of landscaping throughout the park.
Here are some of our projects.
-

Invasive Plant Removal
The FOBP began an invasive plant removal campaign in 2012 that has progressed to an effective scheduled team effort. The current Invasitor team tackles invasive trees, bushes, forbs, and grasses.
-
Pollinator Meadows and Gardens
The Invasitors have created and maintain two pollinator gardens and a large pollinator meadow. These sites provide food and habitat for a variety of insects and animals.
-
Garden Restoration
A number of flower gardens have been restored and now maintained. This includes four azalea gardens along Park Drive and the Gillette Garden behind the Dell.
-

Wildlife Improvements
We try to improve the park environment for all native life. Birds benefit from the installation of bird houses and a plentiful supply of native plant seed heads. Deer, fox, ground hogs, raccoons, opossums, and many small animals call the park home.
-
Erosion Control
The Invasitors work with City staff to control erosion control, from spreading wood chips to promoting ground cover. Temporary control structures are also built.
-
Trash Removal
Wherever we work, if litter or other unwelcome objects are found we haul them out if possible. The park woods should not be their final resting place.
You can join us in our efforts in Byrd Park by sending us your name and a phone number that can receive texts.
You would then receive a text each week telling you where we are working and what we are working on.
